In the book " The Outsider” written by Albert Camus, Meursault is a character that is certainly detached and unemotional when he gives no importance to anything and he recognizes the world around him through his sensory faculties. All through part one of the story, Meursault would not really describe his attributes therefore Camus explains his character instead of giving away his physical explanation. The language employed is very simple and direct, that allows the reader to know the situation. Camus has demonstrated Meursault to be a person who offers lack of emotions, which causes, him not be a part of society. The tone used by Camus enables the reader to have a better knowledge of the environment that he goes in, through a lot of images to explain all of it. Camus uses imagery to portray existence and death, which is the main theme of the novel. The mood with the first section of the novel is very calm however confusing as one who is examining the novel would not manage to relate to that, as not everyone is familiar with a character like Meursault. Symbols including guilt, trip, death and meaning have been shown a couple of times all through the story.

Meursault is a character that does not say much during the novel, you will find very few occurrences when he is really saying anything. When Meursault says some thing, it is very short and to the point, which allows him to be extremely straightforward, just like " yes”(pg. 21) and " yesterday” (pg. 24). As this kind of novel is definitely written in first person, one would predict generally there to be a large amount of speech.
